Elderly woman leaves care home unnoticed suffers fatal head injuries

An 84 year old woman suffered fatal head injuries after leaving her care home unnoticed.

The elderly woman left her care home and walked around 150 metres down the road with her disappearance unnoticed by the care workers. Her disappearance from the nursing home was only brought to their attention after a number of the public discovered the woman laying on the pavement with head injuries.

The elderly woman was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries.

At an inquest, the manager of the care home said that two unauthorised exits from the care home’.

Since this fatal accident, changes have been made to the home such as keypad codes for doors, back gate security and signs to suggest the importance of door closures.

Her death was recorded at accidental.
