Fatal Injury – Police Compensation?

Many fatal injury claims that involved the Police are with reference to a high speed pursuit against drivers who have, say stolen a vehicle and are trying to stop being apprehended.

Car Crash - Fatal Accident Injury

The police in such circumstances have a difficult decision to make.  To pursue the criminal driver for stop the pursuit if there is danger of others being killed in the high speed pursuit.

Some criminals will give up, crash the car or stop and make a dash.  Others will take any risk they can to get away from the police and they don’t care what the risks are or who they harm.  It is the latter where the police have such a difficult decision to make, but a decision they have to form and decide.

If someone is killed as a result of the pursuit of a stolen vehicle as a matter of routine the Police will be investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

A recent tragic case involving the police following a fatal injury which may lead to compensation for the victims can be found on our link: Fatal Car Crash – Injury Involving the Police.

What do the IPCC Do Following a Fatal Car Injury Claim?

The IPCC will take evidence from the Police and witnesses as well as re-creating an investigation of the accident scene to see if there are any clues that can lead them to how the fatal car accident happened.

If fatal injury solicitors can establish fault in relation to the fatal car crash we can obtain an interim payment to pay for the funeral expenses and more compensation on account to help pay for the everyday living expenses that roll in.  At least this is one less worry.
