Four men jailed for fatal crash-for-cash scam
Subject: Crash-for-cash scam
Four men have been jailed for their role in Britain’s first ever “crash for cash” insurance scam to result in the death of a motorist.
The four men involved were members of a Polish gang and each received sentences of up to ten years and three months each.
The deliberate crash caused another collision which resulted in the death of a 34 year old woman.
The case was the first recorded crash for cash in Britain. The staged crash involved an Audi A3 and a Volkswagen which were supposed to crash in to a Ford transit van making a £20,000 personal injury claim. However, the vehicles crashed into a woman’s Ford fiesta leaving her stranded where she was then struck by another vehicle, not involved in the scam which then resulted in death.
The four men had all arrived from Poland within the last ten years and were working full time but receiving no benefits.
