Nine vehicle crash caused death
A lorry driver has been arrested after a male was killed in a fatal road traffic accident.
A deceased his passenger and partner are now in serious condition after two separate accidents. ~The male passed away at the scene.
He was driving a Citroen car which was involved in the second collision. The fatal accident claim involved nine vehicles, including a lorry.
A 60 year old driver of an Iceland lorry was arrested. He is now on bail.
Another male who was also in the collision is recovering from intense chest surgery. A 28 year old woman is also suffering for neck injuries.
Emergency serves were called at 9:20am and attended the scene.
The second crash, an hour later, was much more serious. Four other people suffered slight injuries.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said two fire engines and a search and rescue team were sent to the first crash scene and people in five of the vehicles managed to avoid serious injury.
They had safely made it out of their vehicles when fire crews arrived at the scene.
Fire-fighters used specialist cutting equipment to remove the roof of the sixth vehicle so they could free the 28-year-old woman who was trapped in her Nissan car.
She was airlifted to hospital with a suspected neck injury.
Two lanes were closed while the air ambulance landed.
When the second road accident occurred the motorway had to be shut down while the emergency services worked on the scene.
Ambulance crews were informed of the second road traffic accident around 10:20am.
Four patients were transported to hospital following the accident.
