A 24 year old female zoo keeper was mauled to death by a tiger in a fatal accident.

Her mother said it was her dream job to be a zoo keeper and she has been an animal keeper for three years.

She was doing her daily tasks when the fatal accident occurred.

She was mauled by a male Sumatran tiger.

Following the fatal accident she was air lifted to hospital where she later passed away.

The young girl suffered: deep puncture wounds to her neck and the back of the body. She also had wounds to her arms and foot. Her spine was crushed, ribs fractured and both lungs were damaged.

The mother said her daughter would not want the animal to be put down and was speared.

The enclosure was designed so the keepers could go in to the enclosure but to be kept apart from the animals.

The fatal accident is thought to be because of a defective lock on the enclosure.

Health and safety inspected the zoo four days before the fatal accident occurred. The inspector noted that the lock was defective. The lock would leave a gap of 20 to 25 millimetres.

It is thought if the lock was not defective that the fatal accident wouldn’t of occurred.
