Pensioner Killed by Solicitor
A pensioner of 79 years old was killed in a fatal road traffic accident when he was trying to walk across the road after exiting the bus. He was hit by a solicitor of 30 years old who was speeding at 37 or 40 mph in a built up area by Gardenside Avenue in her Ford Kuga.
The CCTV cameras show the collision happened about 5:20 p.m. because of the time it was dark the road was well lit and the road was dry. The male got off the bus and started walking across the road. He then saw the car speeding towards him; he started running across the road to get out the way of the car. The female driver of the car also swerved to try and miss the male. She hit the male causing him to have severe head and chest injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he later died. Investigations on how fast the woman was travelling are still being carried out.
The 79 year old had heart surgery in 2007. He was also suffering from the early staged of dementia at the time of the crash, he was responding well to treatment. His two daughters give statements to say how much the death impacted their lives. The female pleaded guilty to death by careless driving.
